The favorite sustenance of bacteria
Inulin is plant-based fiber, which is not broken down by human digestive enzymes and thus enters the colon in unchanged form, where it serves as nourishment for beneficial gut bacteria. As the bacteria breaks down the inulin, gases are released, which can cause bloating. Therefore, in order to avoid any unpleasant symptoms, it’s worth getting slowly accustomed to the substance.
The daily recommended intake is 5-10 grams (approx. 1-2 level teaspoons). It can be mixed in beverages and shakes or added to pastries and baked goods.
It has a sweet taste.
